Give Dad the Gift of Open Access to Public Lands

June 6th, 2013: JOHNSON VALLEY, CA:   Off road enthusiasts can give their dads the gift of open access to public lands this Father’s Day by donating to the Save The Hammers fund in their father’s name. Thanks to Falken Tire, any private donations made to the fund at between now and June 16th will be doubled.  Falken Tire has graciously agreed to match all private donations up to a total amount of $5,000 between now and Father’s Day in an effort to raise an additional $10,000 for the cause.

The volunteers working to save the land are currently engaged in a fund raising campaign to raise $31,000: An amount they hope will be enough to help get a federal bill passed into law which would declare the 188,000 acres of public land a National OHV Park.  Just over $6,000 of the necessary $31,000 has been raised to date. With Falken Tire’s offer to match donations made in the next ten days, the goal is to pass the halfway mark in fundraising efforts by Father’s Day.

Currently, the bill is in Congress where it has passed both the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee and has been added to the National Defense Authorization Act (HR 1960) which is expected to go for a vote before the full Congress by month’s end. From there, the bill will move on to the Senate, where the bill will also go through several committees before being voted on by the Senate and then given to the President to sign into law.

Those wishing to donate are encouraged to post a picture of their father to a social media site of their choosing with a message about Saving Johnson Valley and a link to the site to encourage others to do the same.  Donators are also encouraged to post their dad’s pictures to the Save The Hammers facebook page at   to tell others about their dad and why they made a donation in his name.
